Every few months – Linda reads on Facebook about a line dance student telling a line dance instructor about this NEW Tamia dance. And the instructor tries to educate them with the TRUTH.
No...it’s not a new dance. It’s old.
No…the name is not “Tamia Dance”.
The name of the dance is “Come Dance with Me”.
A few years ago, The Line Dance Prince (Carlos J Vieira Jr) posted a YouTube video with a little history on the origins of this dance,

For those who don't know the history behind the dance.... There is always a story. Lol. Almost 10 years ago, I was asked to create a dance routine for a plus size fashion show. I already knew what songs I wanted to dance to and I asked Richard Djrich Epps to create the mix for me. I created the dance and grabbed a few of my crew and we performed Big Girl Rock at this fashion show.
It was never intended to be a line dance but once the line dancers saw it, well the rest is history. Lol

The Wobble did NOT originate in Texas with Jeremy Stong. Here is proof that the "Wobble" line dance is really a dance that originated out of Philadelphia called "Nasty Girl" choreographed by "Butterball's Posse" w/ the late Dave Bush, Jr (Godfather of Line Dance) in the mid 90s. Bernadette Burnette, formally with Dave Bush Dancers, had the honor of teaching and leading this dance back in 2004 at a Soul Line event hosted by DJ Butch Thomas! Who would have known back then that this dance would have swept the nation years later!!!! Let the truth be known now!!! Shout out to the late great Joe "Butterball" Tamburro.

***LINE DANCE HISTORY*** I talked to Casper the other day and he said he is the creator of the dance and music for the “Brand New Slide” which was renamed twice in Chicago ( his hometown) to the “The Chicago Slide” and then “The Gangsta Walk Slide” which was to the DJ Quik track. Then later, it was put to the Tucka track and called “Tucka Line Dance” Casper never knew about the “Tucka Line Dance”. I explained to him that we just want to give credit where credit is due. He also said the 20th Anniversary of the Cha Cha Slide was in 2020 and GMA was going to have him appear and have people dancing from all over the country, but we all know corona killed that. Hopefully, it can happen soon.
A Line Dance P.S.A.- Life is more than a dance, a group, an award, knowing the latest steps, or being seen. It's not about petty differences, frivolous rumors, and childish disagreements and attitudes. Life is about loving more than we hate, helping more than we hinder, and giving more than we receive. Line Dancing is component of life that builds loving friendships, gives joy when there is sorrow, and helps you laugh when you want to cry.
Praying for healing for those in need of a healing, joy for those who are depressed, and for comfort for those who have lost a love one.

Random line dance math…..
15 dances =1 hour of dancing
90 dances in 6 hour party
120 in a 8hour party
180 in a 12 hour party
Bottom line the more dances you learn the more chances you have to dance at a party/event. Attend multiple classes if possible so you can have a wide variety of dances you can learn .. your one instructor can’t teach you every dance that’s out there. Each teacher has their own curriculum and may not teach the exact same things as other class in your area.. and that’s ok that is a good thing.. it gives you variety. You are not betraying your instructor if you attend other classes .. true instructors of the community know this and understand and even encourage it The object of this soul/urban line dancing is SUPPOSED to be as learning as much as we can so we can all dance together …. One floor …one dance.

There's something incredible about our line dance babies... not true babies... but the super young people who have grown up in the line dance community. They are extra special and hold a place in our hearts that's difficult to explain. Nostalgia, maybe? I'm not sure... But what I know is that I have the pleasure of introducing our next line dance instructor and it feels surreal. He's not a baby anymore, but many of us remember when. Tyke Matthews ... the high energy, fun loving, sweet disposition kid who could dance his a** off and entertain you all day with his fancy footwork and huge genuine smile. He's been line dancing since at least 16 years old and there are some wonderful photos and videos of him from back in the day. Pure pleasure to see. He's grown up a bit since then but that energy and zest for life and dancing is still there. In fact, in 2012, he co-founded his group, Hype, based on it... their motto is Heath, Harmony and High Energy Line Dancing. Not only is he a great dancer but a talented choreographer as well. Many people are familiar with one of his first dances... Hype Loop... a super fun dance that actually went International with a group dancing it in Germany! My favorite dance of his is 1 x 1... so good... we should bring that back!!! We are looking forward to seeing what he has in store for us
at the Workshop. You do not want to miss it... cause it's gonna be HYPE!!!
Post from Danielle Thomas, Kris Sltflava White, Nichol Poyntz, Michele Thomas & Michele Pye January 2023 UC Star Awards Performance
A lil additional background on our tap performance. Once the plan was in place, Michele and I reached out to our tap (and jazz) instructor from when we were 7 years old. She had relocated back to our hometown of Toledo. With Nichol, we met up in Toledo and learned our routine. "Ms Julie" was just as excited to see us after 40+ years and we shed some tears thinking how stoked mom would have been.
She was very fond of Julie O'Connell - and we realized how
much mom sacrificed to provide that dancing outlet for us. Just
wanted to share that!
Need to find link for video of their performance at the 2023 UC Star Awards!
Listen up everyone, I have been asked this question alot of times, so let me break it down to ya.
This is a ** TIMELINE ** of Line Dance Records... What's a Line Dance Record people always ask? A song that is Specifically made for Line Dancing that has "CALL OUT'S" telling the people what to do in the song.
There is a difference between a Line Dance Song and Songs people make Line Dances to.
Example.. "The Bikers Shuffle" is a Line Dance Song.. It was made specifically for Line Dancing..... "The Wobble" Is a Rap Song that someone put a previous made Line Dance to.. It's Not an Official Line Dance "SONG"... Again The Wobble Just like "Cant get enough" by Tamia, The Electric Slide by Marcia Griffith are "SONG'S" someone put a "LINE DANCE" to!
Here is the TIME LINE of LINE DANCE "SONG'S" from the very 1st known Line Dance in 1959 till 2010.
Mind you, im only giving you the Time line of what year that Artist's 1st Line Dance Song was released. Because folks like myself and others such as Mixx Master Lee, Mr.C , Dj Maestro, Cupid, Meechie & Ent Distikt has numerous Line Dance Songs created after our 1st Release.
Here is the Timeline ... The Year, Name of Song and Artist
#1. 1959 - "It's Madison Time" by Ray Bryant w/ Call outs by Mr. E. Morrision
#2. 1960 - "The Madison" by Al Brown w/ Call outs by Mr. Cookie Brown
#3. 1975 - "The Bus Stop-The Original Electric Slide" by Charlie Green (Call outs by Charlie Green)
#4. 1997 - "The Cleveland Shuffle" by Big Mucci (71 North) (Call out's by Big Mucci
#5. 1998 - "The Chinese Checkers" by Mix Master Lee & Louis Lane (Call Out by Louis Lane)
#6. 2000 - "Cha Cha Slide" by Mr. C (Call Out's by Mr. C)
#7. 2006 - "The Turbo Hustle" by Dj Maestro (Call Out's by Lenora Douglas)
#8. 2006 - "The Cupid Shuffle" by Cupid (Call Out's by Cupid)
#9. 2007 - "The Down South Shuffle by R-3 (Call Out's by R-3)
#10. 2009 - "Shake Ya Tailfeather" by Demertic Allen a.k.a Meechie (Call Out's by Meechie)
#11. 2009 - "The Monkey Feet" by Pyraci (Call outs by Pyraci)
#12. 2010 - "Row Row" by Black Zack (Call Out's by Black Zack)
#13. 2010 - "Same Ole 2 Step" by Ent. Distrikt (Call outs by Ent. Distrikt)
Honorable Mentions... 1994 .. "Tootsie Roll' by 69 Boyz (Call outs 69 Boyz) ... The Tootsie Roll is actually a DANCE, BUT!!!!! In Todays Line Dance Culture it Could Also be seen as a 1 Wall (Not 4 Wall) but a 1 Wall Line Dance..
If you know of a Line Dance "SONG" with "Call Out's" before 2010 that i missed please leave The Year, The name of song, The Artist and the name of the artist who was doing the "Call Out's!!
I had to educate the difference between a Line Dance Song & Songs that people Just put a Line Dance to! and how to let people see the time line.
A lot of people do not know, when I came out with my Cleveland Shuffle Line Dance that was made in 1997 along with my song Boodie Bounce but with Boodie Bounce I didn’t put call outs to it…
That before me the Last Call Out Line Dance song was The Bus Stop in 1975.
So from 1975 after the Bus Stop, till I dropped in 1997 mins you that’s a 22 year Gap there was NO OFFICIAL Line Dance Record with Call Outs… till me, and as we see After me and the popularity of my song the Cleveland Shuffle now there is a flood of Line Dance Songs with call outs …
Also what people don’t know.. I am the 1st ever to come out with a Full Line Dance Album even on the Country side also.
Nobody never recognized that. Lol

· REPOST WITH A TWIST!
WHAT IS ULDC? The Urban Line Dance Connection (ULDC) is a system built to collect and share information about a form of dance loved by many. It has many names around the world: Hustling, Line Dancing, Sliding and Urban Line Dance. Regardless of the name, it's something that unites all races, genders, regions and ages. WHO CREATED ULDC? The Urban Line Dance Connection site was created by myself because I had an interest in knowing who created the dances I was enjoying. When I started, I would hear conflicting stories about who created certain dances so in 1999 (maybe as early as 1998) I started capturing this data in an excel spreadsheet. WHY WAS ULDC CREATED? Very simply, other dance genres (e.g. Country Line Dance) have public sites where anyone can search for dances, so in 2011 I decided to create this type of site for our Urban Line Dance community. The system was built on the foundation of love....love for dance and a desire to share our collective talents with the world!WHY SHOULD SOMEONE USE ULDC? The Urban Line Dance Connection database allows all choreographers to share dances with each other and with the world. Right now information is straddled between ULDC, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snap Chat and other social media tools. ULDC is a one stop shop, accessible by ALL (e.g. no account is required to view). So, ALL choreographers are encouraged to enter their dance information, so everyone around the world can see. More importantly....it's built by US for US, so we should all embrace usage.IS IT JUST FOR THE UC AWARDS? No, it is not just for the UC Awards. Many inquiries received through the contact us link are from international users. ULDC is all about sharing. However, ULDC is extremely honored to have a partnership with the UC Awards committee. To me, it promotes equal footing by establishing the same identification criteria for all dances and it ensures the committee has access to correct information for all dances across the US. Collect BIO, History, Preferred Photo and Most Requested Line Dances. Add any info from Urban Line Dance Connection Interview Profiles.

· Just humbled and blessed that news channel 5 Nashville did a story on soul line Dancing. He was a great interviewer! We appreciate the love! Soul Line Dancing is for everybody! Thank you to Gernell Jenkins Superintendent at Patterson Park Community Center, Mark Owens at St Clair Senior Center and the city of Murfreesboro for allowing us to teach free soul line dance classes at these 2 wonderful facilities.
Thank you Catrina Daniel for this history post on UniverSOUL Line Dancing.
Line dancing was a sacred part of the Harlem Renaissance era as Black culture evolved artistically. During that time, swing dances like the “Shim Sham,” a tap dance routine created in 1928 at the Savoy Club by Leonard Reed and Willie Bryant, were birthed. The choreographed dance grew very popular as the genre remained a fan favorite throughout the 1930s and 1940s.
In the 1950s, “The Stroll” became another household dance that derived from the Black community but only came popular after it debuted on American Bandstand, reported Madame Noire.
Thank YOU, Candice Martin of Just Class in New Jersey for posting recorded videos and cataloging all the dances taught in 2023 by Major Swagg (Stefhon Cave)
